My goodness...

So I haven't made a post for a while. I don't know what was holding me up, but I figured better late than never. I'm back in classes, had a nice break over summer where I worked at the Lonestar. Yes, me, a born and bred Canadian wore a t-shirt that said "DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS!" I kept the irony levels high, and the laughter was even more abundant. Now I'm back at the library where I belong, and life is great.

I found out a way to make my life better. Pulling off this bag. I have tote that looks like a mixed tape that was given to me by an old friend that I love to pieces, but this one has SPEAKERS. THAT WORK.

*bites fist* I think I need it. SO HOT.

Before I buy that, I need to get my super-nintendo working. The RF switch is busted, but we're having a housewarming party and I think Donkey Kong would be a nice addition.

Speaking of super-nerdy, super-awesome things, I realized that Questionable Content makes me a lot happier than I anticipated. This is my official pimp for it. It's drama-ridden, HIGHlarious, and beautifully drawn. Here's one of my favorites.

Read, love, and enjoy.

Cheeseballing, Pwning, and UNC.

My new favorite discovery is the existence of these Pwned Earrings. I think I kind of need them. I could manage to rock them methinks.

They are simple but still geek chic, mais non?

I feel more introspective as of late. I walk around campus and look up at the sky and the trees and listen to warm and/or fuzzy music and think about life and myself and what I want to accomplish in the next few months, years, and decades. I've felt this way for the past two weeks. It is nice and cheeseball. Yes ladies and gentlemen, as well as being an incredible geek with an embarrassing love for LBJ, I am once of those saps who twirls down College Avenue on a sunny day listening to Wrap Your Arms Around Me by Barenaked Ladies thinking about how I'm going to bypass this healthcare issue and have adventures traveling once I turn 25.

I'm kind of making myself nauseated just thinking about it. I promise, this is just in my head. I'm the same heinous bitch on the outside, I promise.

I had a fantastic day today... I just wish that my efforts in finding outfits for next weekend were more fruitful. Doesn't mean it wasn't fun looking though. Shopping is always great though.

I'm not HUGE into College basketball, but I do like UNC. Tonight, they lost to Kansas, but at least they put up a good fight, made to the final four, and Pwned doing it.

Me want ball.
(from CollegeHumor) Fucking sweet. Bummer they lost tonight, but they really did play a good season. That's really all that counts. w00t!

I'm doing a new social experiment. It's called BenchMarks. It's pretty cool. Check it out.

Lyndon B. Johnson needs to be the new Chuck Norris.

Lyndon B. Johnson is my hero. A lot.

Kennedy got him all caught up in a perfect storm for Vietnam while he was fucking Marilyn Monroe and being loved by the whole country for being hot. Then when he got shot for being an idiot without enough security, Lyndon Johnson got thrust into the role of President.

That's not to say that Lyndon didn't rule the job. All he wanted was to do his "Great Society" program, take care of some poor people, take care of some civil rights madness, and be the shit all around. Instead, Kennedy had a metric ton of "ambassadors" (i.e. soldiers) in Vietnam pissing everyone off. Johnson became the scapegoat when he never wanted any of it at all. Maybe this is a little short sighted analysis of the situation, but accurate all the same.

"The last thing I wanted to do was to be a wartime President." --Lyndon B. Johnson

Regardless, he did the best with what he could and manged to fulfill a prophecy he predicted back in the day...

"If the American people don't love me, their descendants will." --Lyndon B. Johnson

Because even if he hadn't been the underdog who made to to war-time president without being fed with a silver spoon, he was fucking hilarious.

He was getting fitted for a pair of pants on a white house phone. He insisted that all of his phone calls be recorded and transcribed. Secretaries worked night and day to have this done so he could keep up with everything he was doing. He had phones under the dining room table, in the bathroom, even next to his hammock. It was pretty funny. Knowing all of this, he still didn't exactly censor himself.

"LBJ: Now the pockets, when you sit down, everything falls out, your money, your knife, everything, so I need at least another inch in the pockets. And another thing - the crotch, down where your nuts hang - is always a little too tight, so when you make them up, give me an inch that I can let out there, uh because they cut me, it's just like riding a wire fence. These are almost, these are the best I've had anywhere in the United States,

JH: Fine

LBJ: But, uh when I gain a little weight they cut me under there. So, leave me , you never do have much of margin there. See if you can't leave me an inch from where the zipper (burps) ends, round, under my, back to my bunghole, so I can let it out there if I need to.

JH: Right "

He says what he means, and he means what he says. And and he never has to say excuse me after he belches.

Lyndon Johnson = Love.

Epilepsy, Relay, Google Earth and a metric ton of links.

So... duh. I have epilepsy. Super lame, I don't recommend contracting it. To be completely honest, it kind of blows. I went to see Dr. McDoucheBag, and I'm changing for Lamictal to Topamax. I heard that Topamax makes you dumber. Not an exciting prospect, but whatevs. I can deal with it.

Michelle and I went to O'Malleys last night. I ran into my boss from the movie theater I worked at when I was 16. It was kind of amazing. He paid for our tab, and it was totally a blast for the past. Men shouldn't grow ridiculous beards though. It kind of looks dumb. Mr. Relay was the shit back in the day (and his name is Mr. Relay!), so it was fun to show him what a twit I'm not anymore. w00t for amazing grammar.

Speaking of super fun times, I recommend strongly that you check out the new Google Earth.

Maybe it's the Astronomy nerd in me, but I'm in love with it. LikeWhoa.

It's not really a secret that I love Macs. My MacBook is an extension of myself, and I don't know what I'd do without it. I think I'm going to get a MacBook Pro this fall, but still. Apple has been really good to me. I love my iPhone, I love how much money I made in Apple stock, and I love that a homeless woman can write a book in the Apple store, and not only are the employees cool with it, they let her do a reading of the book in the store.

Since the Air has come out, a lot of people have asked me if I would consider getting one. I wouldn't. I need a rocket to handle all the crap that I do, I like having a CD drive on my computer, and seriously... I've run out of room at least 4 times in the past year and a half with 120 gigs on my hardrive. Also, apparently a Macbook Air is easy to lose/toss out with the newspapers. Which I would do. A lot. It's pretty and cool, but not exactly innovative or my cup of tea. Whatever. Apple is still amazing, and Steve Jobs is still my hero. Even if he is a cocky bastard.

A flibbertijibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!

Would you rather have a rich bachelor save you from your life of prostitution or have a baron save you from your boring life of chastity in a convent?

I'm too easily swayed by the media/movies. I had a movie night with some girlfriends way back and our big thing after was that we had to stop giving it away for free if we wanted a Richard Gere to save us from prostitution.

I guess it's just a matter of preference. 7 kids is a little intimidating, but I've always had a stupid girl crush on Captain Von Trapp. Plus, Reverend Mother is the shit. A condo in NYC sound sweet, but as long as I got to sing in the abbey and be late for everything, I think I'd be chill in Austria.

*ahem*
A list - in no particular order:

  • The Brothers Karamazov is a fantastic book. Read it. Names are kind of a bitch, but still amazing.
  • Louis Armstrong + Brothers Karamazov + Candles + Red Wine = Heaven. Seriously.
  • Edith Piaf is the original emo kid.
  • I'm seeing Say Anything with friends on April 2nd is going to blow my mind. I'm sure of it.
  • We need to hire some attractive, straight men. As Alva so eloquently put it, everyone needs to have at least the ability to act out a Jim/Pam fantasy. Am I right?

Adieu! Adieu! To you and you and you!

Obi Kenobi!

Exhaustion is a fickle friend. Champagne and Strawberries while rehashing old crushes in lieu of doing your French devoirs is a great idea. Now I'm all exhausted from waking up at 7am to do them. Oh what a tangled web we weave.

I'm in a French Cinema and Conversation course, and it's really pretty amazing. We've watched a ton of movies, and I did an hour and a half presentation on Cyrano de Bergerac. It was pretty hard to convey totally in French the sheer poetry and amazingness of the Cyrano/Don Quixote comparisons with Quixote's windmills being giants and Cyrano's being compromise and falsehood, but I did alright. So fun.

I have epilepsy, and it blows. I'm applying for an epilepsy scholarship, and I need a letter of recommendation. I asked my boss to do it for me, and she gave it to me today. I'm posting it here because I'm really proud of my job, and being appreciated for it is one of the best feelings in the world. Plus, I'm a big fan of gloating.

"It is a pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Randi. Randi has worked as a Stacks Assistant within Jackson Library for over a year and a half. During her employment with our department I have found her work to be outstanding, she is always willing to help those in need and teamwork is one of her greatest assets. Due to her hard work she has been promoted to Lead Student Assistant this past summer.

Although Randi s up front about her condition, she does not use it as a crutch or way of getting out of work. If she is forced to miss a shift due to her condition, she promplty makes up the missed time.

Randi is a very positive person. She is the one person you can always count on to be smiling and who will having something good to say about even the worst situation . As a Lead Student Assistant, Randi is in charge of scheduling the student assistants which can at times be a rather stressful situation. Randi handles it with the grace and style of a true diplomat.

Randi can always be counted on to be helpful in any way she can, often times staying late or coming in early to help with training. She is truly one of those student employees that you wish would never graduate.

I feel that Randi is one of our up and coming stars of tomorrow and that with this scholarship she will be able to continue her academic career here at UNCG. She truly does not let her condition stand in her way, she works around it, through and past it, but it never gets the best of her."

How nice is that? Really nice. Even if I don't get the scholarship, this letter has really made me happy times a lot.

Now just to remind you that I'm really not that cool and, in reality, a complete dork, here is a video of Star Wars according to a three year old. I have to say that the part about Luke trying to hit the things coming out of the pokeball with his light up sword is the highlight, but the whole thing is pretty darn adorable.

Now I bid you adieu while I continue to be awesome. So long!

Deathbed

So, I caught the plague. It's awful, gross, and lame as hell. I'm going to blame this 103 degree fever for the fact that my love for Coyote Ugly has grown to shameful proportions. It really is ridiculous. Today has also included far more ABC Family than is healthy or normal.

Even though I have Pneumonia, I still get to go to my French class tomorrow. Why? Because my Professor is a sadist bastard. Welcome to Mediocre-State University's power-tripping educators. w00t. I hope he catches this sickness and ends up just as miserable as I am.

Bless the person who invented NyQuil.

I can't work, and Khaki is out of town, so odds are, I'm going to be laying in bed all weekend. Thank goodness for FanPop. It's my new tv-links, only better. Or different. Or both. Make sure that when you search for whatever you want to watch, you type in "full episode" or "full movie." For Example: "Coyote Ugly Full Movie" or "Tru Calling Season 1 Full Episode." That's right. My Eliza Dushku thing seems less mortifying under my present delirium as well. It's Five-by-Five, peeps!

God damn. I need to be asleep now.

Divorce, Juno, and a sneak peek of my future.

Why is there an ad on my blog for divorce?

~

You Can Stop Your Divorce
"Easy strategies that can save your marriage and stop your divorce."

~

Oh Google... how I love thee. You and your super crazy ads that actually subtract from my poverty when people click on you. Maybe it makes me a sellout, but I'd rather be a sellout with an iPhone then a non-sellout living in a box.

Oh wait. I'm a French major. That's going to happen anyways.

My super crazy tidbit at the minute?

That's right. A Juno game for the Wii. Speaking of sellouts... Joystiq reports rumors of a Juno video game. Talk about capitalizing on success.

Is it awful that this makes me want a Wii ever more? Alas, flunking out of college isn't in the cards for me, so I'll hold off until I graduate.

The name? Randi. The lifestyle? Geek chic with generous helpings of passion, hilarity, and pop-culture. The point? I have an irresistible need to share things I love with the world.

What you'll find? Things that spark my interest, whether that will be from a good story, a link, or the latest development from Apple Inc.

I'm an ESFJ future-librarian with a love for gadgets, French, and money. I'm crass, slightly evil, and very much impassioned by life.

I'll leave you with this little nibblet: a taste of why I'm still okay with the world.
